60 Shopify Sidekick Prompts for Plus Teams (Reporting, Merchandising, Flow, Theme and More)

Short answer: Shopify Sidekick is the AI assistant built into the Shopify admin. It can analyze store data, build ShopifyQL reports, create customer segments, draft Shopify Flow automations, edit themes, edit images, write content and work inside supported apps. The best Sidekick prompts name the metric, the scope (date range, products, segment), the output you want, and a guardrail. Below are 60 prompts Plus teams can copy and adapt.

Sidekick has changed a lot in the last year. The Winter '26 Edition (December 2025) added custom app generation, Flow workflow creation, ShopifyQL reports, segment building, theme edits, image editing, multi-step tasks and reusable Skills. The Spring '26 Edition (June 2026) added Sidekick app extensions, background multitasking and Flow test events. On October 1, 2026, Shopify launched Canvas, a new store design surface where you describe changes to Sidekick and watch them land.

The prompts below are starting points, not guaranteed outputs. Results depend on your data, plan, permissions and installed apps. Review every change before it goes live, especially theme edits and automations.

Key takeaways

  • Shopify says Sidekick is included in all Shopify plans, with features and usage limits that vary by plan.

  • Sidekick has the same access as the logged-in user and checks with you before making changes.

  • Shopify states store data is never used to train foundation models or shared with other merchants. It hasn't published a policy for data returned by third-party app extensions.

  • Flow workflows Sidekick builds start inactive and are tagged "sidekick." Desktop only.

  • Sidekick app extensions launched with 18 partners, including Klaviyo, Loop, Smile and Judge.me.

  • Save prompts that work as Skills so the whole team runs them the same way.

How to write a Sidekick prompt that works

Every reliable prompt has four parts:

Part What to include Weak Strong
Metric The number or object you care about "sales" "net sales, orders and AOV"
Scope Date range, products, collection, segment, market "recently" "last 30 days vs the previous 30"
Output The format you want back (nothing) "a table sorted by change, top 10"
Guardrail What Sidekick must not do (nothing) "don't change the live theme"

Two habits make the biggest difference:

  • Ask for the reasoning. "Explain the data behind each recommendation" turns a guess into something you can check.

  • Save winners as Skills. Shopify lets you save, reuse and share prompts, so the whole team runs the weekly report the same way.

Replace anything in [brackets] with your own details.

The 60 prompts

Sales and reporting

  1. Compare net sales, orders, AOV and conversion rate for the last 7 days with the previous 7 days, and list the three biggest changes with likely causes.

  2. Which 10 products had the largest drop in units sold this month compared with last month? Show both numbers.

  3. Build a ShopifyQL report of net sales by sales channel for the last 90 days, by week.

  4. Show returning-customer rate by month for the last 12 months as a chart.

  5. Which discount codes drove the most orders last quarter, and what was the average order value for each?

  6. Create a ShopifyQL report of sessions and conversion rate by landing page for the last 30 days, top 20 by sessions.

  7. List orders over $500 from the last 14 days with their sales channel and fulfillment status.

  8. What share of last month's revenue came from subscription orders?

  9. Summarize this week's performance in five bullets I can paste into Slack. Lead with the biggest change.

  10. Which products are most often bought together? Show the top 10 pairs.

Merchandising and catalog

  1. Find active products with no product category set and list them by revenue.

  2. List active products with descriptions shorter than 50 words.

  3. Find products where one or more variants have no image.

  4. Which variants have a compare-at price lower than or equal to the current price?

  5. Draft a product description for [product] covering who it's for, size, key ingredients and how to use it. Don't add any claim that isn't in the current description.

  6. Suggest a clearer title for [product] that states the format and size, for example "60 softgels." Give three options.

  7. Tag all products in the [collection] collection with "bfcm-2026."

  8. List products with fewer than 20 units in stock that sold more than 50 units in the last 30 days.

  9. Create a smart collection of in-stock products tagged "vegan."

  10. Which products have variants with identical option values that might confuse shoppers?

Customers and segments

  1. Create a segment of customers who ordered twice or more in the last 6 months but not in the last 60 days.

  2. Build a segment of first-time buyers from the last 30 days who used a discount code.

  3. Create a segment of customers whose subscription was cancelled in the last 90 days.

  4. How many customers have bought from both [collection A] and [collection B]?

  5. Create a segment of customers in [market] with lifetime spend over $300.

  6. List my top 50 customers by lifetime spend with their last order date.

  7. Create a segment of customers who bought from [collection] but never subscribed.

Automation with Shopify Flow

Sidekick builds Flow workflows when you describe them. Shopify's Flow help center says to open Apps > Flow, click the Sidekick icon and describe the workflow. Sidekick-built workflows are inactive by default, are tagged "sidekick," and may leave out business-specific logic, so review and test each one.

  1. Create a Flow that tags orders over $300 "high-value" and emails the ops team.

  2. Create a Flow that alerts me when inventory for any product tagged "hero" drops below 15 units.

  3. Build a Flow that tags a customer "VIP" when they place their fifth order.

  4. Create a Flow that tags the order "review-risk" and emails the ops team when Shopify's risk analysis rates an order high risk.

  5. Build a Flow that tags the customer "subscription-cancelled" when a subscription contract is updated to cancelled.

  6. Generate a test event for my low-inventory Flow so I can check the logic before turning it on.

  7. Explain what each step in my "[Flow name]" workflow does, in plain language.

  8. Create a Flow that unpublishes a product when it goes out of stock and republishes it when it's back in stock.

Storefront and theme

Work on a duplicate theme for design prompts, then preview and publish deliberately.

  1. On a duplicate of the live theme, change the announcement bar text to "[message]."

  2. Add a FAQ section to the product template with questions on shipping, returns and subscriptions.

  3. Make the add-to-cart button full width on mobile on the product page, on a duplicate theme.

  4. Create a product page block that shows the "How to use" text from the metafield custom.how_to_use.

  5. Draft three hero headline options for our BFCM homepage in our brand voice.

  6. On the duplicate theme, swap the homepage hero image for [image].

  7. Add a size guide link under the variant picker on the product template, on a duplicate theme.

Content and images

  1. Remove the background from [product image] and place it on plain white.

  2. Write alt text for every image on [product] describing the product, color and size.

  3. Draft a holiday shipping cut-off email in our brand voice.

  4. Write three subject lines for a winback email to lapsed subscribers.

  5. Draft a short policy update explaining our extended holiday returns window.

  6. Rewrite this product description to be clearer and shorter, keeping every ingredient: [paste].

AI channels and agent readiness

Agents read your product data, policies and FAQs. These prompts help find the gaps. AI-channel performance itself lives on the Agentic page under Sales channels, so check Sidekick's answers against it.

  1. Show orders and net sales by sales channel for the last 30 days so I can compare AI channels with my online store.

  2. Which active products are missing details agents need, such as size, materials or ingredients in the description?

  3. List products with titles under four words that don't say what the product is.

  4. Check my store policies and tell me which are missing or incomplete.

  5. Draft FAQ answers about shipping times, returns and subscriptions based on my current policies.

  6. Find products where the description and product category don't match, for example a serum categorized as a moisturizer.

Apps and operations

  1. Using the Klaviyo app extension, show revenue from my email flows last month.

  2. Find and compare product review apps that are Built for Shopify.

  3. Build a simple internal app that lists today's unfulfilled orders by shipping method.

  4. Create a B2B company for [company name] with [contact] as the main contact.

  5. What should I focus on today to improve conversion? Explain the data behind each suggestion.

  6. Turn my weekly reporting prompt into a reusable Skill.

Skills worth saving for a Plus team

Skills turn a prompt into a shortcut. These five pay for themselves first:

Skill Based on prompt Who runs it
Monday performance summary #1 and #9 Ecommerce lead
Catalog gap check #11, #12, #13 and #50 Merchandising
Low-stock, high-velocity list #18 Operations
Lapsed-customer segment #21 Retention
Policy and FAQ review #52 and #53 CX

Guardrails for Plus teams

  • Duplicate theme first. Run design prompts on a copy, preview, then publish deliberately. Pair big changes with a scheduled Rollout.

  • Test every Flow. Use test events before turning a workflow on, and remember Sidekick-built workflows start inactive.

  • Keep claims compliant. For supplements and skincare, never let generated copy add health claims that aren't on your label.

  • Use role-based staff accounts. Sidekick acts with the logged-in user's access, so permissions are your control.

  • Treat app extensions separately. Shopify's no-training statement covers store data. Check each partner app's own terms for data it returns.

  • Keep a change log. A shared doc of prompts, outcomes and rollbacks saves hours when something goes wrong.

Where Sidekick stops and a partner starts

Sidekick is strong at fast, contained tasks. Multi-system work still needs a team that owns the outcome: subscription logic, ERP and 3PL integrations, checkout Functions, custom app hardening, and a real CRO program.
